Here comes that summer sun and we all know it burns our skin. My new summer savoir has come in the form of the city’s latest craze, the Hydrafacial, a treatment that exfoliates, hydrates and nourishes. Having tried a few of these facials around the city, my latest visit was to SoSPA at Sofitel The Palm Dubai to see if their facilities and therapists matched the wonders of the treatment. CARINE DUBAI, EMIRATES GULF CLUB

A fan of French food? If yes, then this might just tickle your fancy. There is a new restaurant in town and my oh my, it’s amazing – possibly my new favourite eatery in Dubai. Conceptualised by the legendary Chef Izu, a name that is known throughout the restaurant industry, Carine has opened in Emirates Golf Club, offering a mouth-watering selection of French Mediterranean inspired dishes and unique cocktails.   The chef, who is famed from his time at some of the city’s top restaurants including La Serre and multiple Time Out Dubai award winner La Petite Maison, has launched his own beautiful, bright and airy Mediterranean bistro filled with all of Carine’s (Izu’s wife) personal favourites, from freshly baked breads, inspired by the bakery she used to work at in northern France, to her own homemade plum and apple jam. The back-story to this little eatery is actually quite cute and has been created purely as a tribute to Carine. LONG TENG SEAFOOD RESTAURANT

If you, like me, have the mentality of ‘seafood’ and eat it, plus a constant craving for Chinese cuisine, then Long Teng is going to tick all your boxes.  Located in Business Bay’s U-bora Towers, the restaurant offers an insight into China, with three floors full of interiors, treasures and trinkets, paying homage to the restaurant’s homeland. With floor to ceiling windows and open kitchens throughout, the ground floor is ideal for those popping in for a quick bite. Climb the spiral staircase and you’ll arrive to floor one, a space that hosts the famous Yum Cha Friday brunch as well as the restaurant’s private dining spaces, which my sources assure me are fully booked most nights of the week. Jump into the elevator and you’ll arrive at the top floor – the interiors host a myriad of tables offering views over Business Bay and Burj Khalifa (this is where we sat for supper) whilst the exteriors play host to an open-air roof terrace where you can enjoy shisha, hot pot or traditional Chinese tea, …

BREAD STREET KITCHEN, ATLANTIS, DUBAI

Straight from the heart of London, Gordon Ramsay’s infamous Bread Street Kitchen has arrived in Dubai and thankfully it wasn’t a long wait before I had the chance to try the newest foodie hotspot in town. Serving a delectable British European menu and hailing from an extremely successful and well known chain, Monday lunchtime was set to be an exciting affair!  I was looking forward to tucking into some good ol’ British classics (which can sometimes be hard to find in the desert!).   Located in Atlantis on The Palm, it is a statement venue, taking over a huge space with around 400 covers in the avenues with a vast, vault-like feel to the interiors. The seating is laid out in leather booths and long wooden tables, however, even though the features are relatively dark, the space breathes light. There are two open kitchens, a cold kitchen counter, a hot open kitchen, an ice-cream parlour (genius!), a bar and an outdoor terrace that houses its own small bar. The menu can be interpreted in a number of …

THE HIDE, AL QASR HOTEL, DUBAI

The Hide, the new ‘meatery’ in Al Qasr hotel has joined the Dubai dining scene straight from the coolest modern meateries in gastronomic capitals such as New York, Chicago and LA. Claiming to be the first of its kind in the Desert, the Brooklyn inspired, brown boothed restaurant has not only modernised what used to be a rather sleepy restaurant, they have also added a well stocked bar serving 54 different types of wine by the glass plus a FUN, unfussy menu, focusing on true, tasty Americana classics.  The Hide has taken over my old favourite MJ’s and even though I am disappointed at the removal of such a great steakhouse, it was about time this corner of the property received a bit of love, comfort and colour. Fronted by renowned British chef Nick Cuadrado, The Hide boasts an authentic, modern, rustic feel with stone, wood, slate and vintage glass, while the menu provides classic comfort food steeped in American culture and transformed with unique meatery twists. They have also revived the ‘forgotten steak cuts’, dedicating a whole section of the menu to …

AN INDIAN FEAST AT MINT LEAF OF LONDON

Set in a romantic ”under-the stars” theme of rich wooden panels, confined in a perimeter of full length glass windows facing Sheikh Zayed Road, Mint Leaf of London offers spectacular views, fine dining Indian food in a low lit, elegant setting – perfect for both the informal and the intimate. Having eaten many lunches at this DIFC restaurant, I was pleased to finally witness the restaurant in full swing on a Wednesday night for dinner. Arriving at 8’o clock sharp, we were whisked into the bar to enjoy a happy hour cocktail plus a brief description of their new Wednesday night offer, the Wednesday Social. With a selection of three premium whiskies accompanied by a cigar from Davidoff for only AED150 per person, this offer had the bar crawling with DIFC workers. Not being a huge whisky fan myself, I had to take my colleague’s word on just how good the selection was! 30 minutes of whiskey sampling and champagne drinking later, we were shown to our window side table which boasted fantastic views of Downtown Dubai and …

POTS, PANS & BOARDS, THE BEACH, DUBAI

After many months of waiting and wishing, I finally visited Pots, Pans and Boards, the new restaurant opened by Michelin star chef Tom Aikens on The Beach in Dubai’s JBR. With glowing reviews read from the likes of Time Out Dubai and What’s On Dubai, I was intrigued (and after a three day juice diet I was also extremely hungry!). As usual, traffic at 7pm in the marina was terrible but parking was super easy, and after a brief trip in the lift, I was outside this foodie playground. The restaurant, which boasted a fab outdoor terrace, was full of crockery, utensils and appliances inside, all stacked on floor-to-ceiling shelves. There was a fully loaded kitchen cupboard in the middle of the space; an open kitchen and a selection mismatched chairs and tables automatically making the look and feel of the restaurant more casual – in simple terms, the fit-out clearly resembled the name. Although these digs are fairly new, and right down the wrong end of The Beach, this restaurant was pretty busy for a Tuesday night, however the staff on …
